Universal Conservation Maintenance Plan
A long term maintenance strategy involves several key components
for proper planning and budgeting. This three-part document is an
overarching discussion about historic building maintenance that
provides a summary of historic building systems and maintenance
principles, resulting in a checklist tailored to the needs of the
individual building. The associated building checklist is focused
on the specific systems and characteristics of a particular historic
building and provides a schedule for performing maintenance activities.
It should be used in the field when evaluating building conditions.
Items on the list should be checked off and dated following review.
Tying the schedule of maintenance activities into an electronic
calendar program could be helpful in ensuring that the schedule
is followed. The Individual Plan is provided as a template to accommodate
the specifics, including photographic documentation, of some of
your buildings’ key components.
Development of the Historic Properties Maintenance Plan was partially funded by a grant from the Colorado Historical Society's State Historical Fund.
