The State Historical Fund (SHF) is a major funder of 9KUSA’s Explore Colorado program, partnering with the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

The State Historical Fund, a program of the Colorado Historical Society, awards grants to public and non-profit organizations to preserve Colorado’s architectural and archaeological treasures for the benefit of future generations.

Program funds are provided by tax revenues from limited-stakes gaming.  SHF grants have helped preserve thousands of historic schools, town halls, main streets and other important structures in all 64 Colorado counties.  Since 1993, the SHF has awarded more than $211 million to over 3,300 projects.

As of 2007 the State Historical Fund has provided more than $650,000 to the National Trust for Historic Preservation to join with KUSA in developing three years of Explore Colorado programming including development of a web site.

Nearly all the Colorado sites profiled on KUSA’s Colorado and Company program and the Explore Colorado web site have received SHF funding.  These important historic resources have been preserved and protected with the help of SHF grants and technical assistance.  All together these sites have received millions of dollars in historic preservation grants since 1993.

For more information regarding SHF funding of these sites please see SHF Grants Awarded through Fiscal Year 2007 or contact the SHF offices at (303) 866-2825.
